The Launch Ceremony of Provincial Disaster Risk Management Plan for Sindh was held on August 12, 2009, in Karachi, at a local hotel.
Senior Member Board of Revenue Mr. Ghulam Ali Pasha expressed his views on this auspicious occasion by showing his optimism to the plan. According to him, this disaster prevention frame work will help save many lives and will safeguard the infrastructure against the approaching disasters. Furthermore, he said that the plan pictures how to manage an emergency response in an efficient manner. In addition, he pointed out the underlying fact that it was the Sindh Revenue Department which helped develop the Provincial Disaster Management Authority into a smart organization to achieve its goals. He acknowledged the Sindh Chief Minister, also recognized as the chairman of Provincial Disaster Management Committee, and the Minister Revenue Jam Mahtab Hussain Dahar, who congratulated the officers of Board of Revenue and of Provincial Disaster Management Authority for their achievement and efforts that gave the Sindh Province the honor and ability to launch such a project. In addition, the efforts of UNDP, NDMA were also appreciated by Mr. Shaukat Nawaz Tahir, a Senior Member National Disaster Management Authority. Mr. Ghulam Mustafa Abro made a presentation of the plan and stated that an action plan has also been made and further this project is first of its kind in Pakistan. There were several other speakers present on the occasion including the D.G. Provincial Management Authority, Mr. Muhammad Sualeh Ahmed Farooqui, and Mr. Tariq Rafique National, Project Manager Disaster Risk Management.
The launch was well attended amongst other by officials of Board of Revenue DCO’s of Thatta and Umerkot, and by secretaries of various departments.
